A wonderful book to read. Sarah Rose had been forced into a marriage full of abuse, both physical and sexual. She doesn’t know what it is to love or trust men. Thornton MacPherson enters her life, and in another twist, she has to marry him. Sarah Rose learns to trust and love. This book is a good book to read, interesting, at times touching. It held my attention the whole way through. It is a clean romance.

May will enjoy this book, but I found it a bit over-dramatic and disjointed. It’s not a bad book or story really. The characters are okay and so is the writing, but that’s it. Everything is just… okay.

The author seems to completely switch gears halfway through the book. It affects the characters, genre, timeline, and events.

    Characters
The main characters are Mac and Sarah at the start of the book and then suddenly become Thorn and Rose to each other. I understand that the author is trying to use this as a sign that they have changed each other and have grown, but it really doesn’t work the way she intended.

    Genre
The start of the book is completely void of any biblical references, but halfway through, the characters become quite religious and every other page someome praying for something. I have no problem with religion in a book, but it feels forced. It’s like the author wrote half the book and an early reviewer told her she needed it to be Christian fiction so add church references and forgiveness.

    Timeline
Time is very strange in this book. The story must cover several months, if not years, but seems to only be a matter of weeks in the telling. Broken bones seems to heal in days but a baby never grows up.

    Tragedies
I’m not even sure if tragedy is what to call it, but how many can an author put her characters through? Every one of them is assaulted and orphaned at some point in their life. They seem to be the only good people surrounded by a world of evil.

I may try this author again at a later date, but I will not read the rest of this series.
